Brain Food- Eating to Live Well

Being all but barricaded in my house for the past week (not joking, I hadn’t left my house in a week thanks to all the snow. Village Life), I had reached the stage of rummaging through my cupboards to make a decent meal. As you can imagine, I ended up getting a little creative.

A little side note, I’ve been a vegetarian for many years now, so I was even more restricted as to what I can eat, no one’s fault but my own, I know. But it does force me to look for healthy options so I don’t end up an exhausted limp noodle unable to move from lack of nutrition, a place I’ve been after eating my body weight in cheese.

Another thing that I have to remind myself, eating right is so important to keep your brain ticking over. Given that I’m using (or at least try to) my brain every day, I needed to keep it ticking away.

The benefits of eating healthy outway those of just simply looking thinner. There is so much more to it than that. Even though you may not be able to see it, your body runs so much better, faster and more efficient when it is given the proper fuel (just like a car.) This isn’t to say that you must eat salad your whole life, I know I certainly wouldn’t be too happy with that, but the more you look after yourself, the more you will be able to do.

I don’t diet, nor do I ever wish to, the utmost important word for me when it comes to food is MODERATION.

Sometimes we crave deep fried, artery clogging junk food, and who am I to say you shouldn’t have it. But when it comes to the next day, I would always try and balance it out with something on the healthier side of things.

Don’t let anyone tell you you’re doing wrong for eating what you like, it’s none of their business. Everyone knows nowadays what certain foods do to you, it’s your choice of what you want it to do for you. As long as you remember moderation, you’ll be ok. Remember, eating right is more than just staying in shape, it’s about keeping your brain at full capacity.

Then again, you can always take sides with my mum and just go for chips. I’d always nick one.
